NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Ronald Kenneth Simmons, 70, of Newport News, VA passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021.
Ronald proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Thailand. It was in Thailand where he met his beloved late wife, Chavee. During his military career, Ronald received many medals and awards.
Upon his retirement from the military, Ronald worked as an Events Coordinator Supervisor at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA up until his retirement.
Ronald enjoyed many activities to include hunting, spending time in nature, and traveling to Thailand with his wife up until her passing.
Ronald graduated from C.S. Brown High School in Winton, NC as well as received military training and education in law enforcement.
Ronald is survived by his son, Ronald Kenneth Flythe (Shannon Reeves Flythe); his daughter, Riem Desormeaux (Joseph “Chris” Desormeaux); his siblings, Patricia Rush (Robert), Crystal James, Carla Hall, Vanessa Harris, and Marva “Nikki” Simmons; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ronald is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chavee Simmons; daughter, Veronica Simmons; and his parents, Roosevelt and Grace Simmons.
A special thank you to the caregiver, Elaine Gaddy, who supported him in providing loving care until the end.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 202, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA 23607.
