COLERAIN – Sandra Nichols Byrum, age 75, of NC Highway 42, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Byrum was born on February 11, 1946 to Paul Sherwood and Bernice Lassiter Nichols in Gates County, NC. Sandra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved children and spent much of her career working in school positions at R. L. Vann Elementary School and Bethel Assembly Christian Academy. She was a Godly woman that cherished her church, loved her Lord, and enjoyed being around people. She was a joyful singer and participated in several church choirs and singing groups. She also liked to go fishing, and enjoyed gardening, and loved visiting the North Carolina mountains and coast. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandson. Sandra had a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and showed great compassion for others. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis, Randolph, and Phillip Nichols.
Left to cherish Sandra’s memory is her loving husband, Johnny; her son, Jamie Byrum and wife Heather of Apex, NC; one grandson, Thomas Byrum; two sisters, Alice Cale of Ahoskie, and Janice Parker of Winton; one brother, Gene Nichols and wife Eda of Peabody, MA; a sister-in-law, Susan Nichols of Chesapeake, VA; nieces, Kim, Julie, Lori, Amy, and Denise; and nephews, John, Kevin, Todd, Steven, and David.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Ahoskie Christian Center Church, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Terry Stockman and Rev. Daniel Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
