Lady Falcons rout Woods Charter to advance in playoffs

WINDSOR – Bertie High School proved why they are the top seed in the girls Class 1A Eastern bracket of the NCHSAA state playoffs here Thursday night.
The Lady Falcons improved to 19-4 overall with a 77-31 rout of Woods Charter School of Chapel Hill in second round action.
Bertie used a 15-4 run in the first quarter to build a 33-15 halftime lead and then put the game on ice in the third quarter where they outscored the 17th-seeded Wolves, 29-11.
No individual stats were available from the game.
Bertie will host #9 Chatham Central (14-12 overall) in Saturday’s third round.
The Lady Falcons won Tuesday’s state playoff opener, 68-18, against #32 Cape Hatteras.
The Bertie High School varsity boys, seeded 23rd in the 32-team eastern Class 1-A bracket, pulled off a first-round upset on Tuesday, defeating #10 Chatham Central, 62-57.
The Falcons traveled to #7 Pender County on Thursday night where they were narrowly defeated, 65-60.
Northampton County High School’s girls team, the #15 seed, won their Class 1A State playoffs opener on Tuesday, defeating #18 Oxford Prep, 43-27, behind a 24-point performance from Janaijah Grant.
The Lady Jaguars saw their season end on the road on Thursday night where they dropped a 68-51 decision at undefeated (22-0) and second-seeded Wilson Prep.
Also in Tuesday’s opening round action for varsity boys, #32 Gates County fell at top-seeded Chatham Central, 63-40, and #14 Tarboro knocked off #19 Northampton, 66-60.
