HCHS girls earn medals at state track & field championships

GREENSBORO – Several members of the Hertford County High School girls track team earned medals at the 2022 NCHSAA Track & Field Championships held Friday and Saturday, May 21-22 at NC A&T State University in Greensboro.
HCHS sophomore Jada Lloyd finished third with a time of 12.52 seconds. Lloyd placed fourth in the 200 meter dash (26.02 seconds).
In the 4 x 200 meter relay, Hertford County High School finished third with a time of one minute and 46.91 seconds. That time was a shade over one second slower than the first place foursome from Farmville Central High School (1:45.88). The HCHS team consisted of sophomores Jamiyah Valentine, Jada Lloyd and Amayah Simmons along with freshman Gabby Hayes.
In the 4 x 100 meter relay, HCHS finished fifth with a time of 50.94 seconds. The team consisted of Valentine, Lloyd and Simmons along with junior LaCora Moore.
In the boys championship, Hertford County placed 11th in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of three minutes and 39.98 seconds. That team consisted of seniors Zarchaeus Savage and Brian Eley, junior Cole Blackwell, and sophomore Wayne Futrell.
Gates County junior Semaji Cross posted a top-10 finish in the Class 1A triple jump (38-09.00).
