MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25) in their home opener against Conference Carolinas rival, Mount Olive, on Tuesday evening.

Haydon Ahlers paced the Hawks with seven kills. Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, and Kolleen Priest notched six kills each.

Diana Rodriguez led the defense with 26 digs, while Anixa Rosa-Martinez added 14 digs, and Ellie Middleton tallied 12.

Sydney Ginaitt nearly posted the double-double with nine assists and nine digs.

Chowan fell to 4-8 overall (1-2 in league play) while Mount Olive improved to 8-6 (2-0).
