‘Shot house’ raided

WINDSOR – A Bertie County man with a past history of operating a “shot house” was charged again Wednesday for selling alcohol without a state permit.
Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said that 63-year-old Lannie R. Watson was charged with two counts of possess for sell alcoholic beverages without an ABC permit issued by the state of North Carolina.
Those charges stemmed from a search warrant that was executed on Wednesday by North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agents and Bertie County Sheriff’s Office personnel at 601 Mount Olive Road, Windsor.
Several containers of alcoholic beverages were seized as a result of the investigation.
Ruffin stated that this location has been investigated on previous occasions for selling alcohol without permits. He added that this is Watson’s sixth arrest since 2016 for illegally selling alcoholic beverages within Bertie County.
Records from the NC Department of Corrections show that Watson received suspended sentences and performed community service on two previous arrests (11-19-2016 and 11/10/2018) for dispensing alcohol without a permit. Those offenses are classified misdemeanors.
