WINDSOR – A Williamston man was arrested near here Friday afternoon on several drug charges.
Malik Dhyshine Edwards, age 30, was taken into custody at around 3:30 p.m. on US 17 near Pleasant Oak Road, just south of Windsor.
Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said that approximately 40 Ecstasy pills, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia, were seized during the arrest. Ruffin added that his deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agents in making the arrest.
Edwards was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a daycare, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver MDMA (Ecstasy – a drug that acts as both a stimulant and psychedelic), possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting a public officer.
Edwards was jailed on an $85,000 secured bond.
Ruffin said the arrest stemmed from investigators receiving complaints that Edwards was involved in the distribution of illegal substances within Bertie County.
“A special thanks to Lt. Martin Phelps, Detective Brandon Turner, and Deputy Jonathan Price for their assistance with this case,” Sheriff Ruffin said.
