Bertie’s varsity boys remained atop the conference standings (10-0; 16-3 overall) by routing Tarboro, 66-26, at home on Tuesday. Zy’Lee Bazemore (16 points) and Tayvien Ward (10) led the Falcons who saw 10 players score in the lopsided contest.

The Lady Falcons also collected a win, defeating Tarboro, 49-44, to improve to 5-11 overall and 5-4 in the conference.

Also on Tuesday night, Hertford County’s varsity boys avenged their only conference loss to date by defeating First Flight, 84-71. The Bears improved their conference-leading record to 10-1 (16-3 overall) with the victory.

In varsity girls action, Hertford County used an 11-2 advantage in the third quarter to break open a tight game and the Lady Bears went on to win, 50-38. With the win, the HCHS girls improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

At Pungo on Tuesday, Ridgecroft School’s varsity boys improved their league-leading record to 9-0 (17-1 overall) by edging the Raiders, 80-74.

Ridgecroft’s varsity girls only trailed by three (23-20) at halftime, but the home-standing Raiders used a 17-8 scoring advantage in the third quarter to eventually deal the Lady Rams a 52-39 setback.

With the loss, Ridgecroft fell to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

In Lasker on Tuesday night, Northeast Academy dropped both varsity contests to visiting Lawrence Academy.

A big second quarter by Lawrence (20-7) aided the Lady Warriors in building a 27-11 halftime lead en route to a 46-28 win over NEA.

Northeast was led by Hayes Hatcher’s 16 points.

Samantha Hughson scored 14 points to pace Lawrence.

In the varsity boys game, the Warriors built a 22-3 lead in the first quarter en route to a 66-20 win over the Eagles.

Northeast was led by Jaden Medford’s nine points.

Mari Larry and Charles Spruill tallied 12 points each to top the Lawrence scorebook.

Northeast won both junior varsity games.

Arland Davis poured in 21 points to lead the NEA jayvee girls to a 44-15 win.

In the jayvee boys game, Jake Parks (19 points), Camden White (15) and Preston Ordnung (12) all scored in double figures to lead the Eagles to a 53-42 victory.

Northeast Academy will host the Tarheel Independent Conference Tournament next week (Feb. 6-10).
