Bertie High School’s varsity boys, Hertford County’s varsity boys, and Northampton High School’s varsity girls each earned a top-four seed and lead the way for several local teams that earned berths in the 2023 North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Basketball Tournament.

First round games are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the home courts of the higher-seeded teams.

Bertie’s varsity boys (22-4 overall) are the #1 seed in a field of 32 teams in the Class 1A East bracket. The Falcons will host #32 Cape Hatteras (6-11 overall) in Tuesday’s opening round.

Hertford County’s varsity boys (21-4 overall) are seeded #3 in the Class 2A East bracket. The Bears will host Midway High School (12-11 overall) on Tuesday.

In the Class 1A East girls bracket, Northampton County (21-1 overall) locked in the #2 seed. The Lady Jaguars will host #31 Bertie (6-14) on Tuesday.

Hertford County’s varsity girls (16-8 overall) are the #15 seed in the Class 2A East bracket. The Lady Bears will entertain conference foe Edenton-Holmes (the #18 seed at 13-11 overall) on Tuesday.

Both varsity teams at Gates County High School earned NCHSAA postseason berths.

The Lady Red Barons (13-11 overall) are the #22 seed and will travel to Burlington on Tuesday to face #11 Clover Garden School (21-8 overall).

The GCHS boys (13-12 overall) are the #17 seed and will make the trip to Gaston on Tuesday to play #16 KIPP Pride (12-9 overall).

Northampton County’s varsity boys (16-6 overall) are the #12 seed. The Jaguars will host #21 Bear Grass Charter School (16-9 overall) on Tuesday.
