GREENVILLE – A two-year rape investigation by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of an Aulander man.
Domonquie Letaz Whitehead, age 28, was arrested yesterday (Tuesday), according to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
The arrest occurred in Pitt County.
Whitehead stands changed with two counts of second degree rape. He is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $400,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear today (Wednesday) in Pitt County court to answer those charges.
Sgt. Lee Darnell, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations and Information Officer, told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that the crime took place in the Stokes community on two dates in mid April of 2021. The victim was a juvenile female.
Pitt County Sheriff’s detectives submitted evidence to the North Carolina State Crime Lab in April of 2021 from the rape investigation. The results from the Crime Lab were returned earlier this month to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 17, Pitt County detectives presented the evidence to a judicial official who then issued the arrest warrants for Whitehead.
