Chowan women’s lacrosse notches first win

DUE WEST, SC – The Chowan women’s lacrosse team would not be hindered by the weather as the Hawks soared to their first win of the season with a 20-11 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas action here Saturday afternoon.
Victoria Brown paced the offense with six goals and one assist. Cameryn Barrow and Rebekah Lucas tallied hat-tricks. Barrow added three assists, while Lucas tallied one.
Grace Taylor, Trinity Walker, and Sarai Sanders added two goals each. Sarai Reyes-Roman and Gracie Timken posted one goal each.
Chowan jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as Walker put the Hawks on the board off an assist by Barrow. Brown found the back of the net off an assist by Taylor before Sanders and Lucas scored a goal each.
Erskine would get on the board late in the opening frame but would be countered by a goal by Taylor and Reyes-Roman to lead 6-1.
After a Fleet goal, Lucas and Barrow would find the back of the net to lead 8-2. Brown and Timken would extend the lead to 10-3.
Erskine would close the gap to 10-7 early in the third quarter before Walker ended the scoring drought in the half with a goal off an assist by Taylor. Brown would score to push the lead to 12-7.
Taylor and Brown scored to offset the Erskine goals before Barrow scored on a free position to lead 16-9.
The Hawks would stretch their lead to double-digits early in the fourth quarter as Lucas, Barrow, and Sanders pushed the advantage to 19-9.
Lucas would find Brown for the final goal for the Hawks to secure the first victory of the season.
Chowan returns home to host Emmanuel on Saturday, April 8. Senior Festivities will occur prior to a 12 noon draw control.
