WINDSOR – The NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete program is one of the Association’s most popular voluntary programs and recognizes excellence in the classroom and the playing court or field. The program includes identifying varsity teams that attain specific grades and individual athletes.
Individual Scholar-Athletes attain at least a 3.5 weighted grade point average for the semester they competed.
A varsity team earns Scholar-Athlete recognition by attaining a 3.1 (unweighted) aggregate GPA for that designated semester in the team division. The school receives a certificate honoring the accomplishment, and each squad member also gets a certificate.
The teams with the top GPAs in the state in their respective sports are recognized at the NCHSAA Awards Banquet in June and will receive a plaque from the NCHSAA.
At their recent Athletic Banquet, several Bertie High School student-athletes were recognized as NCHSAA Scholar-Athletes. Bertie’s women’s varsity basketball squad earned a Team Award.
Individual Scholar-Athlete Awards were awarded to:
Bertie Football – Zylee Bazemore, Micah Long, Dequan Bland, TaJohn Smallwood, Joseph Morris, and Davion Jones.
Bertie Woman’s Tennis – Courtney Hoggard, Ja’Meer Bell, Ty’Asiah Ruffin, and Khloe Mitchell.
Bertie Volleyball – Ke’Miya Hyman, Lauren Mitchell, McKenzie Cherry, Tiffany Thomas, and Alexia Dickerson.
Bertie Varsity Woman’s Basketball – Kydra Brown, McKenzie Cherry, Alexia Dickerson, Jyi’Shea Morris, Arianna Saunders, Triana Smallwood, Amiya Smith, and Simone Williams.
Bertie Varsity Men’s Basketball – Zylee Bazemore.
