WINTON – A grant from Dominion Energy will help support the summer reading program at the Hertford County Public Library this year.

The staff received a $1,000 grant on Thursday, May 25 at the library located in Winton. Katherine W. Wade from Dominion Energy presented the check. She said she was glad Dominion could provide some support, and she hoped the programs this summer will be well-attended.

“Libraries are so important,” Wade emphasized.

Hertford County Public Library Branch Manager Tomeka Roulhac said the money will be used to help cover the costs for performers who will come provide a variety of programs throughout June and July.

The Summer Reading Program is an annual event hosted at all seven branches of the Albemarle Regional Library system in Hertford, Bertie, Gates, and Northampton counties. In addition to providing a fun array of events to attend at the local library, the program encourages people of all ages to read more.

This year’s theme is “All Together Now” with a focus on kindness, friendship, unity, community, and more.

Registration begins in early-to-mid June and varies by branch location.

“Thank you to Dominion for giving us the grant,” Roulhac said.

The library has previously received the same grant in the past to help supplement their summer reading program. The funds come from the Dominion Energy Foundation, which is a part of the company that focuses on giving back to the communities they serve through charitable donations.

Grants are awarded to nonprofits with a focus on human needs, environmental stewardship, education, or community vitality.

Last year, the Dominion Foundation awarded $45 million to communities throughout their service area.
