WINDSOR – An Aulander man with a prior felony conviction faces new charges following a traffic stop today (Tuesday).
Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said Kevon Deonte Watford was arrested and charged after the vehicle he was operating was searched and a dangerous weapon, illegal drugs, U.S. currency, and ammunition were found.
Watford was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of Schedule VI controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license were revoked. He was confined into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
Sheriff Ruffin said Bertie Sheriff’s Investigator Jonathan Price stopped the vehicle because he had knowledge that Watford was driving on a revoked license. Upon approaching the driver, Price smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Price was assisted by Lieutenant M. Phelps and Sergeant R. Blount to conduct a search of the vehicle at which time the weapon, ammunition, cash, and drugs were located.
