Spruill caught, held under $1 million-plus bond

AHOSKIE – A local man who has avoided arrest since 2016 is finally in custody.
Talametrius Spruill, who had outstanding warrants from the Ahoskie Police Department, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, and fled from law enforcement officers while firing shots this past Sunday night, was captured Monday night while attempting to hide under a porch at a residence in the St. John community.
Spruill was placed in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $1,006,000 secured bond and had his initial court appearance on Tuesday.
Spruill had been on the run for several years and was being tracked by the US Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force. He had outstanding warrants from the Ahoskie Police Department for felonious restraint and felony speeding to elude arrest (2016) and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of cocaine (2017).
This past Sunday morning, HCSO deputies responded to a call for an incident involving Spruill at Horseshoe Trail in the B&B Mobile Home Park, located on West Modlin Road near Ahoskie. Spruill fled into a nearby woods while firing shots. Law enforcement officers searched the area most of the day but were unsuccessful in locating Spruill.
In that incident, Spruill was charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Agencies assisting the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office during the search for Spruill were the Ahoskie Police Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, ECU Health Police Department, Rocky Mount Police Department (K-9 Assistance), North Carolina Highway Patrol (troopers and air units), North Carolina Adult Correction (Probation & Parole), United States Marshal Service, Hertford County Emergency Management, Hertford County Emergency Services (EMS), and North Carolina Emergency Management.
Sgt. Brian McNair, Deputy Carleigh Wildeboer, and Deputy Ron Lewter were the arresting deputies.
