SEVERN – Voters in this Northampton County community will cast their ballots at a different location than in past elections.
At their scheduled meeting on June 13, the Northampton County Board of Elections unanimously agreed to move the Severn voting precinct to the Severn Town Hall, located at 314 Main Street.
The change became effective immediately following the decision by the Elections Board.
Voters who are affected by the change should expect to receive a voter notification card by mail in the near future, according to Northampton County Elections Director Spinosa G. Clements.
Clements said the polling place for the Severn Precinct was at the Town Hall up until the outbreak of the COVID 19 virus.
“We relocated the polling place in 2020 to the Meherrin Cultural Arts Center to allow adequate space for social distancing due to the pandemic,” Clements told the R-C News-Herald.
She added that the move back to the Severn Town Hall was necessary due to the fact that the Meherrin Cultural Arts Center is now undergoing renovations and the completion date of that project is not currently known.
Clements confirmed that the first election to be held using the Town Hall as the Severn Precinct polling place will occur in November of this year. That election is for those seeking seats on the Severn Board of Commissioners and for the town’s mayor.
Those seeking any additional information regarding the new location of the Severn polling place can contact the Northampton County Board of Elections office at (252) 534-5681.
