WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announces that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded funding to the Choanoke Area Development Association of North Carolina (CADA), Inc. to enhance their Head Start Projects.

CADA will receive $6,618,886.

Davis said CADA’s Head Start Projects are vital to eastern North Carolina.

“With these grants they will be able to continue to invest in educational resources to support the young minds and families of our district,” Davis stated.

Additionally, Davis announced that HHS has awarded grants for North Carolina’s First Congressional District to respond to and recover from current emergencies and disasters while also enhancing preparedness and resilience for future crises, all to ensure continued access to high-quality primary care services for underserved populations.

The 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) allocated the following grants for NC-01:

Bertie County Rural Health Association: $589,000

Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, Inc.: $589,000

Gateway Community Health Centers, Incorporated: $589,000

Greene County Health Care, Incorporated: $392,601

Opportunities Industrialization Center, Incorporated: $491,851

The FY 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts funding makes available capital-related resources for health centers to support alteration, renovation, construction, equipment, and other capital improvement costs to meet the needs of areas affected by Hurricanes Fiona and Ian.

“This announcement represents a significant step towards ensuring the health and well-being of our communities in eastern North Carolina,” said Davis. “These grants will empower us to address both immediate challenges and strengthen our ability to face future emergencies, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential healthcare services for our underserved populations.”
