Hawks score late to rally past rivals

MOUNT OLIVE – After surrendering an early goal, the Chowan men’s soccer team clawed their way back to secure a 2-1 victory over rival Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action here Tuesday evening.
Trailing 1-0 after Mt. Olive scored a goal early in the match, Chowan knotted things up at 1-1 when Abdoulie Sanneh, off an assist from Charley Leech, scored in the 35th minute.
That stalemate was broken late in the match when Chowan’s Alex Espinoza, off an assist from Bradley Binns, scored the game-winner in the 88th minute.
Chowan outshot the Trojans, 16-8, with a 7-1 advantage in targets on frame.
The road swing continues for Chowan (3-3-1 overall; 3-1-0 in league play) as the Hawks take on Francis Marion in a Conference Carolinas East Division clash on Tuesday, Oct. 3. First touch is slated for 7 pm in Florence, SC.
