AHOSKIE – Police officers answering a breaking-and-entering in progress call here Wednesday night discovered a deceased teenager inside the home.

Interim Ahoskie Police Chief Justin Farmer said officers from the department were dispatched to 115 Raleigh Street – located between North Pembroke Avenue and North Ruth Street adjacent to Ahoskie Elementary School – at around 9:30 p.m.

Farmer stated that upon arrival of the officers, they found a 17-year-old Black male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Hertford County EMS arrived and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim was not released.

“This is an active investigation and we are following up on leads in this case,” Farmer stated. “If anyone has any information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Sgt. Tom Helms at 252-332-5011.”

Farmer said that additional information about this case will be released in the coming days.
