MURFREESBORO – The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday (Dec. 16) at a residence on South Drive.

MPD officers were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. to South Drive, located off Storey Road near Powell Road, in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a male in his mid 20’s had suffered a gunshot wound while inside a residence, according to a post on the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Facebook page.

The victim was immediately transported via helicopter to an area hospital for treatment.

“Our officers are working diligently and following up on anonymous calls coming into our office in reference to this shooting. This was an isolated incident and the public is not at risk,” said Murfreesboro Police Chief David Griffith.

Griffith said anonymous tips can be made by calling the MPD at 252-398-4151 and ask to speak to Lt. Burke or Corporal Byrum.

“I want to thank the public who have been providing tips and encourage anyone else with information to call us,” Griffith added.
