Chowan gains split on the road

CENTRAL, SC – Chowan University managed a split of two Conference Carolinas basketball games here Saturday at Southern Wesleyan.
In the women’s game, four Hawks scored in double figures to lead the way to an 84-75 victory. The win was the third straight for the CU women, who improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Imani Hickman led the quartet of Hawks with 19 points, while Yasmine Brown and Danea Mackey collected 16 points each. Sydney Roberts chipped in 11 points.
Chowan went 33-of-36 from the charity stripe, including 15-of-17 in the fourth quarter.
In the men’s game, sub-par shooting from the free throw line handed Chowan a 79-77 loss. The Hawks fell to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Chowan shot 60.0% (12-of-20) from the free throw line. They were 2-of-4 in the last two minutes while Southern Wesleyan went 6-of-8 from the stripe.
Leading the Hawks was Damerius Summers who went a perfect 9-of-9 from the floor for 19 points in just 11 minutes of action. Preston Le Gassick chipped in with 16 points, while RJ Wilson added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Daylan Askew collected seven assists and two steals to go with six points.
