MURFREESBORO – For the second time in two weeks, the Chowan men’s basketball team needed a buzzer-beating shot from Daylan Askew to seal a win.
Askew’s latest heroics came here Saturday evening when the former Hertford County High School standout nailed a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds on the clock, lifting the Hawks to a thrilling 87-86 win over King College in Conference Carolinas action.
Trailing 86-84, Askew caught the inbound pass behind the arc, took a couple of dribbles to his right and launched the game-winner just before the final buzzer.
Askew finished with 28 points and six assists.
RJ Wilson added a career-high 26 points on his way to a double-double with 12 rebounds. Wilson added three blocks and three steals.
Preston Le Gassick chipped in with 10 points and four assists.
Chowan shot 48.2% from the floor in the second half, while holding King to 37.9% from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
Chowan (15-8 overall and 9-5 in league play) will continue their homestand as the Hawks take on Mount Olive in an East Division Conference Carolinas clash on Wednesday, Feb. 14. It is Play4Kay Night. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm.
