MURFREESBORO – George Clayton Warren, Jr., affectionately known as “Bud,” peacefully passed away on February 10, 2024 at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital. He was born on August 5, 1937 in Milwaukee, NC. Bud was 86 years old at the time of his passing.

Bud dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving others. He worked as a Postal Worker for the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail with care and diligence. After retiring from the USPS, he continued his work in the mail room at Chowan University. Bud’s commitment to his job was evident in his attention to detail and strong work ethic. Bud was also proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force.

Outside of work, Bud had a zest for life. Bud’s greatest passion, however, was following and attending every ball game his grandsons played. He cheered them on with unwavering support and pride.

Bud is preceded in death by his father, George Clayton Warren, Sr.; his mother, Elma Spivey Warren; his loving wife, Barbarette Barnes Warren; his son, George Stanton “Stan” Warren; and his grandson, Brandon Warren. Although their absence leaves a void, their memories will forever be cherished.

Bud leaves behind his grandson, Tucker (Kasara) Warren of Matthews, NC, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Marianna (Elbert) Long of Conway, NC, and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Daniel of Matthews, NC. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Judy B. Ward of Ahoskie, NC, and his brothers-in-law, Stanley Barnes (Eileen) of Murfreesboro, and Don Barnes (Judy) of Pendleton, NC.

A service to celebrate Bud’s life was held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church, with Reverend John Porter officiating. Following the service, Bud was laid to rest in Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bud was a longtime and faithful member of the church he held dear, Meherrin Baptist Church. He was always the first to arrive, eager to worship and connect with his church family.
