Motorcyclist killed on Pine Tops Road

MURFREESBORO – A motorcyclist lost his life near here Wednesday night during a two vehicle accident on Pine Tops Road.
Walter Williams, 44, of Murfreesboro was killed in the mishap that occurred at around 8:30 p.m.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper C.E. Chamblee investigated the wreck. In his report, Chamblee noted that Williams was operating a Kawasaki motorcycle east on Pine Tops Road. Meanwhile, Mary Pridgen, 81, of Murfreesboro was traveling on Vann’s Gin Road in a Buick passenger car.
Upon reaching the stop sign at the intersection of the two roads, Pridgen’s vehicle came to stop, Chamblee noted, but then pulled into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
Pridgen was transported to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Trooper Chamblee charged Pridgen with making an unsafe movement and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The fatality was the seventh of the year within the NCHP’s Troop A / District II area (Bertie, Gates, Hertford counties). Four of those fatalities have occurred in Hertford County.
