MURFREESBORO – Faye Newbern Cobb, born on June 4, 1929, in Bertie County, NC, peacefully departed this life and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Franklin, VA, at the age of 94.

Faye dedicated much of her professional life to the textile industry, serving as a Seamstress-Supervisor for Ahoskie Manufacturing and later for Rollic Manufacturing. After the closure of these factories, she found fulfillment working in food service for Hertford County Public Schools for several years.

Faye’s love for her family was unconditional, and the home she created was the heart of her family, a place where love and warmth were always abundant. She was cherished and respected by her friends and neighbors, always extending care and kindness to those around her. Her passion for gardening was evident in the beautiful yard she maintained, filled with vibrant flowers and birds that brought her joy.

A talented seamstress, Faye created stunning wedding gowns for both of her daughters, and her skill in crochet earned her awards at the NC State Fair. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching baseball and, more recently, found joy in coloring. Faye was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding force in her life.

Faye was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, David Lee Cobb Jr.; her parents, Joseph James “Jim” Newbern and Blonnie Fairless Newbern; and her siblings, Sadie N. Castello, Kenneth W. Newbern, Forrise N. “Blue” Fairless, Frank D. “Judge” Newbern, and Betty Rae Castelloe.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving children: Constance “Connie” C. Baldwin of Murfreesboro, NC; Rebecca “Becky” C. Byers of Franklin, VA; David Lee Cobb, III (Judith) of Quitman, TX; and John Wesley “Johnny” Cobb (Debbie) of Murfreesboro, NC. Faye also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Amy Millsap (Joel) of Savannah, GA; Adam Baldwin (Jennifer) of Edenton, NC; Carrie Bloomfield of Franklin, VA; Matthew  Byers (Jennie) of Wake Forest, NC; Tia Cobb of Quitman, TX; Katie Shoemaker (David) of Hope Mills, NC; James  Cobb of Murfreesboro, NC; and Amanda Cotton (David) of Siler City, NC. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren: Henry Millsap and Hayden Millsap (Joel) of Savannah, GA; Tucker Baldwin and Grady Baldwin of Edenton, NC; Ethan (Taylor) Bloomfield of Midlothian, VA; Cameron Byers of Wake Forest, NC; Lawson Cotton and Brantley Cotton of Siler City, NC; her great-great-grandson, Silas Bloomfield of Midlothian, VA; and her step-great-grandchildren, Jackson and Christina Vaughan of Wake Forest, NC.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, NC, and at other times at the home of Connie Baldwin. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Tommy Tripp and Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
