FAYETTEVILLE, NC – S. Ray Britt, 77, of Fayetteville, NC, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 2, 2024, in Fayetteville, NC surrounded by his family.

Ray was born January 27, 1947, to Ernest Britt, Jr. and Gracie Lane Britt. Ray was the oldest of three siblings and grew up alongside his sister, Debra, and brother, Kenneth, in Milwaukee, NC. Ray graduated from Northampton High School in 1965. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969 where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. While there, he met his wife of nearly 54 years, Brenda. He was a Certified Public Accountant and served as the Director of Finance for the Public Works Commission of Fayetteville. Ray was a Tarheel born and bred. His remains have been donated to the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.

Ray’s moral compass steered him clearly and decisively through a life with integrity. He was deeply loyal to his church, his girls and his alma mater; and he made fast friends with anyone who shared his love for any of these. Ray enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating and fishing with friends and family. Ray gave his opinion freely without reservation. He was irreverent and funny until the end, always capable of bringing a smile to those around him, even in the most difficult times. He showed up for nearly all of life’s special occasions no matter the sacrifice. His family never lacked for his love, any tangible item he could provide, or the memories he made with them.

Ray served as an Elder at Peace Presbyterian Church. He was a loving, kind and generous son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be deeply missed by so many.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kinlaw Britt; his daughters, Wendy Koren Britt, Kelly Leigh Britt, and Amy Lynn Britt, her spouse, Henry Ray Macolly, III; his adoring granddaughters, May Britt Macolly and Eva Ray Macolly; his brother-in-law, Michael (Mac) Julian Kinlaw; and his nieces, Renee Thweatt Jones and Tracy Thweatt Baker.

A Memorial Service will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC at 3203 Ramsey Street on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and visitors one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his honor to Peace Presbyterian Church.
