JACKSON – The search for a missing woman ended tragically near here Tuesday afternoon.

The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office reports that Jasman Peele was found deceased in a wooded area approximately 300 feet behind her residence, which is located along US 158. The discovery came at around 5:15 p.m.

“She was found with apparent gunshot wound to the upper body,” said Captain Patrick Jacobs of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacobs added there were no signs of a suspicious nature or foul play at the location of where the body was discovered.

“We are not confirming what cause of death is at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” Jacobs said.

Peele, age 31, was last seen by her immediate family at a residence at approximately 6:43 am Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office notified the media on Tuesday afternoon that a search was underway.
