RALEIGH – Odessa Chamblee of Ahoskie took a chance on a $20 scratch-off and won a $2 million prize.
She bought her lucky 100X The Cash ticket from the Village Store on N.C. 41 in Wallace.
When Chamblee arrived Tuesday at the NC Lottery Commission office to collect her winnings, she could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $100,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million. She chose the lump sum of $1.2 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $858,006.
Hertford County previously received a $15 million grant from money raised by the lottery to build the new Ahoskie Elementary School.
