Aulander man arrested for assault and kidnapping

AULANDER – A local man stands charged with assault and kidnapping following his arrest near here Monday.
Bertie County Sheriff Tryone Ruffin said that 26-year-old Rahjon Green, Jr. of Aulander is charged with two counts of assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, armed robbery, first degree kidnapping, second degree kidnapping, communicating threats, shooting into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, discharge a weapon into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Green was booked into the Bertie Martin Regional Jail and is held without bond.
Ruffin said that around 7 a.m. on Monday, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance which resulted in a subject being shot and an additional victim being kidnapped.
Members of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Investigative Divisions along with officers from the Down East Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, and Ahoskie Police Department responded to the scene. There, officers located the kidnapped victim as well as an individual with apparent gunshot wounds.
Ruffin said both victims were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries and are expected to make a complete recovery.
Green fled on foot into a wooded area off Connaritsa Road. Ruffin said that a drone from the BCSO Special Ops Unit was deployed along with a K9 from Hertford County Sheriff’s Office to assist with apprehending the suspect.
After a brief search, Green was taken into custody without incident.
“The incident [Monday] morning was a single incident spread over two separate locations. I wish to thank the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and the Ahoskie PD for their assistance with this incident,” said Ruffin. “This is still an active investigation and additional charges are pending.”
