COLERAIN – Pamela Bracy Hughes, age 61, of Lazy Hill Drive, peacefully passed away at her home on September 18, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 17, 1962 to Malcolm and Joyce Bracy in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Pam dedicated her life to caring for others and sharing joy through her many interests and passions.

Pam was married to her beloved husband, Gary Hughes, on November 6, 1983. They loved to travel and took many trips together over the years. Pam was a devoted mother who cherished her children and grandchildren. She was affectionately known as Peeps by those closest to her. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader at her sons’ ballgames. Her dedication extended to her faith, as she was a steadfast member of Bethany Baptist Church in Perrytown, where she faithfully served and formed lasting bonds within her spiritual community.

Pam began her professional career at the Edenton Hospital, as a Registered Nurse, then to Home Health in Bertie County where she provided compassionate care to countless patients. Following her tenure in the nursing field, she channeled her creativity where she volunteered at both the Chowan and Bertie County Arts Councils, Lawrence Academy, and many other events and activities. She then transitioned into her role at the Home and Garden Shoppe where she and the owner were known as Pam #1 and Pam #2.

Beyond her professional life, Pam had a variety of personal interests. She found great joy in traveling and spending time with her many friends, including the YaYa sisters. She enjoyed chillin’ on the Chowan River and snow skiing. Pam was creative, an avid crafter, gardener, painter, and baker of delightful cakes. Her talent for flower arrangements brought beauty to many occasions, and her laughter was contagious. She had joy in everything she did from shopping, to taking care of her boys and their friends, and numerous activities with her grandchildren.

Above all, she was a Proverbs 31 Woman, living out her faith with a generous spirit and loving like Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm Mack Bracy and Joyce Anne Cullipher Bracy. Pam is survived by her husband, Gary; her two sons, Wynne Hughes and his wife Nichole of Edenton, and Mason Hughes and Katie Cooper of Colerain; her sister, Monica Bracy Ben Amor and her husband Mohamed of Ahoskie; and her two cherished grandchildren, Maycee and Malachi Hughes. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and countless friends.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Pam’s compassionate caregivers for their gentle and loving care throughout her courageous journey of Alzheimer’s and to Bethany Church members for their extended support and meals.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and at the home.

A celebration of Pam’s life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, Colerain, NC, officiated by Rev. Tommy Tripp.
