Lady Eagles tennis reels off three straight wins

Northeast Academy has rolled off three tennis victories in a row.

The Eagles defeated Pungo Christian Academy twice sandwiched around a win over Columbia High School.

In the first matchup, Northeast took a 6-3 victory over PCA thanks to four singles victories and a pair of doubles wins.

Northeast top seed Arland Davis cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lilly Prince to get the match started.

No. 2 seed Lena Taylor also claimed victory, defeating Juliette Pence 6-3, 6-2.

Brianna Robinson continued NEA’s winning ways with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sayla Brown.

Fourth-seeded Summer Deloatch kept the Eagles in the win column with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bailey Hodges.

Pungo rallied back when Maggie Ballance claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ella Ricks. The Raiders’ Emily Copes got the other singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 win over MiKaylie Wells.

In doubles action, Taylor and Davis cruised to an 8-1 win over Prince and Brown in the No. 1 team matchup.

Robinson and Deloatch claimed the final win as they topped Pence and Hodges by a count of 8-3.

PCA’s third win came when Ballance and Copes took an 8-3 win over Jodi Taylor and Ricks.

Just a few days later, Northeast rolled to a 9-0 victory over Columbia High School.

Three of the Eagles took 8-0 victories in singles action. L. Taylor led the way with an 8-0 win over Yulissa Gonzalez-Ochoa in No. 2 singles while Deloatch claimed a win by the same county at No. 4 as she toped Taylor Brinkley.

The other perfect win came when Ricks knocked off Joclyn Voliva 8-0.

NEA top seed Arland Davis also claimed a victory, knocking off Reagan Atkinson by a count of 8-1.

Third-seeded Brianna Robinson defeated Madeleine Martinez-Garcia by an identical count of 8-1 and No. 6 seed Jodi Taylor earned an 8-3 win over Bianca Acre to complete the sweep in singles action.

The No. 1 doubles team of Davis and L. Taylor cruised to an 8-0 win over Atkinson and Martinez-Garcia.

Deloatch and Robinson earned an 8-3 victory over Gonzalez-Ochoa and Brinkley.

No. 3 seeded doubles team Ricks and J. Taylor then secured the perfect day for the Eagles with an 8-1 win over Acre and Voliva.

The second matchup with PCA went even better for the Eagles as they claimed a spotless 9-0 win over the Raiders.

Davis won the rematch with Prince by a count of 6-1, 6-0 while L. Taylor cruised in a win over Sayla Brown by counts of 6-1 and 6-0.

Third seeded Robinson defeated Hodges with set scores of 6-2 and 6-1 while Deloatch earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ballance.

Ricks then secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Copes. Mikaylie Wells won the sixth seed competition by forfeit.

In doubles action, Davis and L. Taylor cruised to an 8-0 win while Robinson and Deloatch claimed an 8-1 win. The match ended when Ricks and Jodi Taylor won the battle of No. 3 teams by forfeit.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Lawrence Academy.
