Chowan men’s soccer dominates Belmont Abbey

MURFREESBORO – Sam Deacon scored twice as Chowan’s men’s soccer team dominated Belmont Abbey 2-0 here Saturday afternoon.

With this result, the Hawks’ record improves to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

The match kicked off with a quick start as Deacon netted his first goal for the Hawks in the 7th minute. Assisted by teammates Bradley Binns and Robbie Deighan, Deacon found the back of the net, giving Chowan an early 1-0 lead.

The Hawks maintained control throughout the first half, outshooting the Crusaders 12 to 10, showcasing their offensive prowess.

Goalkeeper Chase Jansen played a pivotal role in the victory, not only making four saves but also playing all 90 minutes of the match.

In the second half, Chowan continued to press forward. Deacon struck again in the 64th minute, this time scoring a stunning solo goal to double the Hawks’ lead.

Chowan returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a 3 p.m. home match against Emmanuel.
