PENDLETON – Mr. William Joseph Britton (Billy, Daddy Billy), age 91, of Pendleton, NC, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at UNC Health in Rocky Mount. He was born on June 2, 1933 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Henry Grady Britton and Grizzie Blythe Britton.

Mr. Britton was a good, kind, and Christian man who loved his family and was devoted to his wife, Millie, as they spent their lives working and loving the farm. He was also a faithful, active, and devoted member of Galatia Baptist Church, where for many years he served as deacon, church treasurer, and choir member. Knowing and sharing our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with his family was a tremendous priority in his life.

In 1952, Mr. Britton graduated from Seaboard High School, Seaboard, NC, where he was heavily involved in sports. So, it is no wonder that NC State basketball and Major League Baseball were favorite pastimes and he looked forward to going to the games with his special friends and family. He was so excited when the NC State men and women’s basketball teams made the 2024 final four. He was also a lifelong Phillies fan, but in his later years, he watched Nationals since they were televised often. A favorite year was the 2019 World Series.

He also proudly served in the US Army and National Guard of NC.

He is survived by his son, Tim Britton (Lynne); daughter-in-law, Terry Britton; grandchildren, Tyler Britton, Crystal Bain (Austin), Amy Oneal (Pierre) and Christy Horton (Bob); great-grandchildren, Parker Bain, Paisley Bain, Brendan Lassiter (Billie), Mikey Klemiuk (Avery), and Anndi Jane Klemiuk; and brother, Ellis Britton, as well as loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Britton was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Britton; son, Andy Britton; and brother, Henry Britton.

Visitation with family in Galatia Baptist Church was held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 followed by a burial graveside service with Pastor Justin Rose officiating at the Britton Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in honor of Billy Britton to Galatia Baptist Church Men, c/o Galatia Baptist Church, 1219 Galatia Road, Seaboard, NC 27876.

The family would like to thank friends and family for the loving support extended during this time. Also, the family would like to thank the staff at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie and UNC Health Nash in Rocky Mount for their kindness and compassion during this time.
