Chowan women suffer close loss vs. UNC-Pembroke

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan women’s soccer team moved to 3-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play after suffering a 3-2 loss to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday afternoon. The Braves improved to 6-2-2 overall and 5-0-2 in conference play.
In a close match, the first half saw only one goal, with Regan Jackson scoring in the 20th minute, assisted by Natasha Bailey, staking Chowan to a 1-0 lead.
It was a busy scoring second half, beginning with Mercy Bell of UNC Pembroke scoring in the 64th minute, followed by another goal from her in the 73rd minute, allowing Pembroke to forge ahead, 2-1.
Chowan’s Abigail Simon answered with a goal in the 75th minute, tying the match at 2-2, but it was Eli Soderberg of UNC Pembroke who ultimately broke the tie with a goal in the 78th minute.
Kirsten Peterson spent the whole 90 minutes in the net and made eight saves for Chowan.
Chowan will be back home for their next match against Barton at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 12.
