AHOSKIE – George Spoolman Stocks, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Martin County, Jamesville, North Carolina. Born on January 19, 1940, in Windsor, Bertie County, he was the son of the late Roy Stocks, Sr., and Millie Leggett Stocks.

A dedicated craftsman, George was the owner and operator of a beloved shoe repair shop on Main Street in Ahoskie, North Carolina where his skill and commitment to quality were appreciated by the community for many years. Beyond his professional endeavors, George found great joy in woodworking and spent many a serene day fishing, embracing the tranquility and beauty of nature. May his soul rest in peace, embraced by the love of those who knew him.

George was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his brothers, Roy Stocks, Jr. and William Stocks; his sister, Louise Mizelle; his first wife, Joyce Askew Stocks; and his stepson, Herbert Leggett.

He leaves behind his wife, Vivian Leggett; two daughters, Lori Stocks Lunsford and her husband Ricky, and Amy Stocks Bryant and her husband Phillip, both residing in Waynesville, North Carolina. He also cherished his grandsons: Jason Ray and special friend Jandara of Colerain, NC; Brandon Hall and his wife Becky of Ahoskie, NC; Braxton Hall and his wife Monica of Canton, NC; and Jeremy Bryant of Waynesville, NC; as well as his granddaughter Christen Pittman and her husband Tavaris of Rocky Mount, NC. George is also survived by his sister, Pearl White, and her husband Reddick of Windsor, along with stepdaughters Debbie Peele and her husband Shelton, and Rita Martin and her husband Ricky, both of Jamesville, NC. He will be fondly remembered by numerous great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 11-11:45 a.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of life service will follow at 12 noon at Ahoskie Cemetery with Rev. Ray Faircloth, Sr. officiating.
