Chowan tops North Greenville on the road

TIGERVILLE, SC – The Chowan University men’s basketball team hit the road for a conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon where they powered past the North Greenville University Trailblazers, 81-73.
Daylan Askew led the scoring for the Hawks with 22 points. Dominique Bailey added 11 points, four assists, and two steals. Eric Gordon Jr. put up nine points and also had a block.
RJ Wilson paced the Hawks in rebounds with eight total boards, including five on the defensive end. He also contributed six points and four assists.
Chowan led by two (32-30) at halftime.
North Greenville led three times by narrow margins in the second half, the last one coming at 61-60 with 5:40 remaining. Thirteen seconds later, Gordon gave Chowan the lead (63-61) for-keeps with his three-pointer. The Hawks went on to lead by as many as 10 points (77-67) on Askew’s lay-up with 1:07 left in the game.
Chowan limited North Greenville to just 36.4% shooting in the first half. The Hawks dominated inside, scoring 24 points in the paint, while shooting 50% from the field.
Chowan (6-4 overall; 3-1 in league play) will take on Emmanuel in a conference matchup at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 in the Hawks Athletic Center.
