WINDSOR – Bertie County Sheriff John Holley ran for election saying drugs would be a priority.

He seems to be living up to that campaign promise as the sheriff’s office continues to arrest multiple drug suspects. In the past three days, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has added three more to the list of those arrested on drug charges.

Monday, Bertie Narcotics Officer Brian Edmondson served warrants on David Bond, 30, of King Street in Windsor for selling illegal drugs.

Bond, who was in jail on unrelated charges, was served warrants for two counts of sell and deliver a Schedule II narcotic (crack cocaine) and one count of maintain a place for a controlled substance.

He was given a $30,000 secured bond on those charges.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office also served warrants on Cola Harrell, who was originally of Powellsville, but has since moved to Macclesfield in Edgecombe County.

Harrell was arrested by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, first degree kidnapping, assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault on a female.

He was served warrants by officers from Bertie County on charges of two counts of the sell and delivery of a Schedule II narcotic (crack cocaine). He was placed in custody under a $240,000 secured bond on all charges.

The third arrest came courtesy of an alleged drug suspect wrecking her vehicle Tuesday.

Bertie County Sheriff’s deputies charged Brittany Van Horn, 20, of Windsor with two counts of trafficking opium or heroin (pills) and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance.

“She had an accident in her vehicle and our officers went out for traffic control,” Sheriff Holley said. “One of the officers saw the pills in the car she was driving.”

Van Horn was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 cash bond. Sheriff Holley said additional charges are pending.

“We have continued to work diligently to curb the sale of drugs in Bertie County,” Sheriff Holley said. “We had warrants already drawn on two of the subjects and were able to serve them. The other arrest was the result of the keen eyes of officers sent to the scene of an accident.

“We will continue to do everything we can to push drug dealers out of Bertie County,” he added. “If you’re selling drugs here, your days are numbered.”
