MURFREESBORO – Thomas Wells “T.W.” Hill, Jr., a beloved husband, father, granddaddy, and friend, passed away on December 25, 2024, in Hertford County, North Carolina, at the age of 76. Born on April 14, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, T.W. lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service.
T.W. was known for his exceptional career as a banker, retiring after 44 years of devoted service. He was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding a bachelor’s degree and carrying Tar Heel pride throughout his life.
After his successful professional journey, T.W. spent his retirement years enjoying the simpler pleasures of life. He found joy in riding around the family farm, affectionately named “River Hill,” and cherished every moment with his grandchildren. T.W. was deeply invested in their lives, always present at their sporting events, offering encouragement and support. A lover of family gatherings, T.W. treasured the time spent with his loved ones and enjoyed traveling and watching his son, Tommy, play football for the University of South Carolina.
T.W.’s community involvement was noteworthy. He was a valued member of the Rotary Club, South Carolina Bankers Association, the North Strand Optimist Club, and in the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce. T.W. held the esteemed position of President of the Little River Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina and was awarded the Outstanding Business Person of the Year in 1993. He was a devoted member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church.
T.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Whitley Hill and Thomas Wells Hill, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Redding Hill, who stood by his side through life’s many adventures. His legacy continues through his daughter, Sarah Brown, and her husband Hunter, along with their children, Elizabeth Brown and Molly Brown; and his son, Thomas “Tommy” Wells Hill, III, and his wife Jennifer, with their children, Thomas “Wells” Hill, IV, and Bannon Hill. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Hill Williams, and her husband Sandy, and their daughter, Carrie, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will dearly miss him. In memory of T.W., pull for Carolina blue or garnet, dance the night away and spread Christmas cheer.
A celebration of T.W.’s life took place on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Dr. Mark Gaskins officiating.
