Bertie High School’s varsity boys collected back-to-back wins on successive nights at home this week.
On Monday, the Falcons rode the hot hand of Zymiere Dempsey who scored a game-high 38 points (connecting on 15-of-20 shots from the field) in a 73-22 win over Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech.
One night later (Tuesday), Dempsey had a game-high 29 points while teammate Tayvien Ward added 21 points in a 72-38 victory over North East Carolina Prep.
With those two wins, Bertie improved to 5-6 overall.
Bertie’s varsity girls also won their two games earlier this week: 38-6 over Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech and 55-15 vs. North East Carolina Prep.
Alexia Dickerson (12 points) and Armani Bridgett (11) led the Lady Falcons in Monday’s win.
Dickerson (16), Zynaeja Leary (15) and Saleice Gould (10) topped Bertie’s scoring on Tuesday.
Hertford County High School’s varsity girls have lost two straight games: 48-39 at home vs. Northeastern on Jan. 7 and 60-25 at First Flight on Jan. 9.
Brooklynn White scored a game-high 18 points in the loss vs. Northeastern. Jameilya Lewis tallied eight points to pace the Lady Bears vs. First Flight.
The HCHS varsity boys also dropped their first two games of the new year: 80-46 vs. Northeastern and 68-64 against First Flight.
Shimere Garris scored 18 points to lead the Bears vs. Northeastern. Rimiez Williams poured in 31 points in the loss at First Flight.
Gates County’s undefeated varsity girls got a big win at home on Tuesday of this week, edging Perquimans High School (who was also unbeaten entering the game), 47-46.
London Barber (16) and Zoey Nowell (14) led the Lady Barons who improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in Four Rivers Conference play.
In varsity boys play, Gates County was defeated by Perquimans, 66-48. Individual stats were not available.
Since the start of the new year, Ridgecroft School’s varsity boys have won two straight games to improve to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.
On Jan. 7 at Pungo Christian Academy, the Rams raced out to a 39-24 halftime lead en route to a 79-66 win.
Nacir Lewis led the way with 20 points while Antron Gray (19) and Javion Leary (14) also scored in double figures.
At home on Tuesday of this week, Ridgecroft outscored Lawrence Academy, 26-15, in the fourth quarter and used that advantage to claim a 68-61 win.
Lewis (19), Leary (17), and Gray (12) led the effort for the Rams.
Lawrence was led by a game-high 34 points from Nike Wiggins while Winston Warren and Carter Hoggard added 12 points each.
Ridgecroft’s varsity girls gained a split in their last two games: defeating Punto, 69-53, and falling to Lawrence, 68-35. There were no individual stats available for Ridgecroft from either game.
In the win by the Lawrence girls, Claire Smith led the Lady Warriors with 24 points. J. Etheridge and Ellie Farmer added 15 and 12 points respectively.
On Tuesday in Lasker, Northeast Academy ‘s varsity girls suffered a 62-53 setback vs. Albemarle School. No individual stats were available.
