Today’s high temperature will struggle to reach 30 degrees. The snow is expected to arrive in the early evening hours and last until around 1 am.

Be advised that snowfall amounts are predicted higher in areas along and east of US 17. For instance, Chowan County may see as much as 4 inches of snow while some areas of the Outer Banks could get six inches.

NC DOT has pre-treated all paved roads in the R-C area. However, with tonight’s cold forecast – a low of 15 degrees – roads will become slippery.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. In North Carolina, go to http://DriveNC.gov for road information.

NWS-Wakefield has also issued a Cold Weather Advisory for the Roanoke-Chowan area from 12 midnight Tuesday until 10 am on Wednesday. Wind chills of 5 degrees are expected during that time frame. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. If outside, wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

The cold air remains on Wednesday where despite partly sunny skies, the high temperature is forecasted at 29 degrees with an overnight low of 12.

Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high of 36 and a low of 20.

High temperatures reach the low 40s by Friday and Saturday. Overnight lows are 17 (Friday) and 24 (Saturday).
