AHOSKIE – Everybody scored!
Each of Ridgecroft School’s 10 players had at least one point as the Rams rolled past Northeast Academy, 68-28, here Tuesday night in a Tarheel Independent Conference varsity boys basketball game.
Ridgecroft, who honored its seniors at the game, improved to 11-4 overall and a league-leading 3-0 record in the TIC.
Northeast fell to 3-9 overall (0-5 in the TIC).
The game started with a bang for the Rams as Antron Gray scored on three fast-break lay-ups while Frank Jones and Landon Woodard each bombed in a long-range three-point basket to highlight an 18-0 run for the Rams over the opening six minutes.
A basket by Corey Phipps off an offensive rebound; a fast-break bucket from Javion Leary; and a three-point bomb by Harrison Jones extended Ridgecroft’s lead to 25-1 at the end of the first quarter.
A pair of hoops from Nacir Lewis and a three-pointer each by Tyler Berryman, F. Jones, and H. Jones sparked an 18-1 run by the Rams to open the second quarter where they stretched their lead to 43-2.
Northeast scored its first basket of the game – a three-pointer by Jake Parks with 1:51 left in the period. Camden White followed with a basket for the Eagles, but the visitors trailed 45-7 at halftime.
Berryman opened the third period with three straight bombs from beyond the three-point arc. The last one prompted a stoppage in play as he was ceremoniously awarded a special ball marking 1,000 points scored over the course of his high school career.
Holding a 54-12 lead at that point, Ridgecroft coach Malcolm Harrell substituted freely and his reserves maintained a large lead for the remainder of the contest.
