WINDSOR – An Ahoskie man is facing multiple charges here after being arrested late last week.

According to a report filed by Sgt. Ricky Morris of the Windsor Police Department, two businesses were broken into in the past several weeks. The burglaries took place at Carquest Auto Parts and Copeland Tire, both in the Windsor town limits.

A tip led officers to believe Theodore R. Spivey, 39, of Ahoskie was involved in the break-ins and Sgt. Morris alerted his officers to be on the lookout for Spivey at businesses after hours.

Windsor Police Officer Herman Purvis located the suspect at Roy’s Service Center on July 15 after the business was closed and questioned him. The suspect was found to be wearing goods which matched those in the crimes in question, according to Sgt. Morris.

Sgt. Morris went and interviewed the suspect himself and found him to be in possession of additional stolen property from a breaking and entering in Ahoskie. He contacted Sgt. Stephen White of the Ahoskie Police Department, who also came to the scene.

After interviewing Spivey further, Sgt. Morris charged him with possession of stolen goods. He then received a search warrant for Spivey’s residence on U.S. 13 North in Ahoskie.

With the assistance of Bertie County Sheriff’s Deputies Kevin Phelps and Jason Thomas and Det. Matt Roebuck of the Windsor PD, the warrants were served and further evidence was found.

On Friday, Spivey was charged with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of larceny after breaking and entering. He was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is Wednesday.

Sgt. Morris said he appreciated the help from his own officers as well as those of the Sheriff’s Office and Sgt. White of the Ahoskie Police Department.

“The Windsor Police Department is a strong supporter of being a proactive department so we don’t have to be a reactive one,” Sgt. Morris said. “We want our citizens to feel safe and our goal as well as our job is to stop crimes before they happen.”
