MURFREESBORO — A Durham man is facing felony drug charges after being arrested for allegedly selling marijuana here.

According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe, officers arrested Karlous L. Mitchell, 34, at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday after receiving information of a person selling marijuana on South Drive.

Rowe said MPD Narcotics Officer Lt. Joe Burgess received the information, which included a description of a vehicle and a suspect.

Lt. Burgess along with Captain Chris Sumner and Officer William Barmer responded to the location. Their investigation led to the search of a vehicle.

“In the vehicle the officers found 35.9 grams of what we believe is marijuana, also numerous plastic bags that are commonly used to package marijuana,” said Rowe.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle to store marijuana, both felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

He was taken to the Hertford County Jail and placed there on a $45,000 secured bond.

“I want to commend all of the officers involved for their quick and safe action in taking narcotics off the street,” Rowe said.

Chief Rowe also asked citizens to call the police department when they have information about criminal activity in their neighborhood that is placing them and their children in danger.

“Please call us and we will respond,” he said.
