Good luck, Falcons

Talk about something a long time coming… Bertie High School will play in their first regional semifinal in 37 years tomorrow night (Friday) when they travel to Greenville to meet Northern Guilford.
This Falcon team has given their fans much to cheer for. They’ve beaten some top-tier teams to get where they are…they’ve won championships and they have a young, fiery coach who is in his first season at their helm.
Last Friday night’s double overtime win was one of those games people will be talking about for decades. Bertie High School basketball hasn’t had one in a long time. They’ve had good wins over the years, but, despite some great coaches and players, have never reached this point.
Head Coach Lester Lyons should get a lot of credit for getting his team to this point. He has worked hard and pushed them to work hard. His team has fought for everything they’ve gotten.
The seniors on this Falcon team have provided leadership’ the youth have provided quality and depth. They are a team the county can indeed get behind as they make this last push.
Friday night the Falcon faithful danced to the music of “Achy Breaky Heart” after they knocked off Jacksonville High School in the Sectional Final. Here’s hoping they’ll be able to break a few more hearts this weekend as they travel to Minges Coliseum.
Good luck to the Bertie Falcons, their players, coaches and fans. We wish you the best as you take the floor to represent not only Bertie County, but the Roanoke-Chowan region in the finals.
