JACKSON — Proposed increases for fees associated with the re-inspection of existing septic systems, applications for new septic systems and water samples are heading before the Northampton County Board of Commissioners.

On Thursday, the Northampton County Board of Health voted to approve the proposed fees, which have yet to be decided on by the commissioners.

The decision is slated for Monday, according to the commissioners’ agenda.

According to Northampton County Health Director Sue Gay, the proposed increases include the application fee for existing septic systems, the application fee for new septic systems and water samples.

The application for existing septic systems is proposed to double, from $25 to $50, while new septic system application fees are proposed to increase from $75 to $100. Water samples are proposed to rise from $30 to $50.

Among the reasons for the proposed increase to the fees include the need to having to bring in a registered sanitarian and the increase in gas.

Gay said the last increase for the fees came in 2007.

The commissioners’ regular meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday.
