WINDSOR – The tax rate in Windsor remains unchanged.

Last week, the Windsor Board of Commissioners held a public hearing and officially adopted the 2011-2012 fiscal year budget. That budget leaves the tax rate at 15 cents per $100 valuation.

“We tried to cut spending while maintaining a high level of services,” Town Administrator Allen Castelloe said. “We wanted to maintain the tax rate and keep charges the same, but not hurt the services our people are used to.”

Castelloe’s budget did just that, keeping the tax rate the same as well as leaving water, sewer, garbage collection and electric rates unchanged.

The budget adds one fulltime employee to the town in administration, meaning Windsor will operate with 31 fulltime workers.

It also includes a new water supply well, a Community Development Block Grant project and a sewer rehabilitation project.

The total General Fund is for the coming year will be $2,080,100. Other funds include Water Fund ($331,800), Sewer Fund ($645,800), Electric Fund ($4,954,500) and a Project Fund ($941,000) leaving the entire budget projected at $8,953,200.

The budget was approved on a motion by Commissioner Joe Alexander which was seconded by Mayor Pro-Tempore Hoyt Cooper. It passed by a unanimous vote.
