RICHMOND, Va. – Danyashi Wood will soon be on his way back to Bertie County to face charges related to his escape from jail.

According to Bertie Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Ed Pittman, Wood waived extradition Monday afternoon and is set to be returned to Windsor where he will face charges related to his July, 2008 escape from the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail.

“I’ll be working with the North Carolina Department of Corrections Extradition team to have him picked up and returned,” Det. Pittman said.

Wood was caught last week in Richmond, Virginia following a vehicle chase. Wood was involved in an automobile accident, but still attempted to flee on foot after the crash. He was apprehended by officers with the Richmond Police Department and jailed in that city.

He was being sought on a federal warrant of unlawful flight to avoid confinement as well as local warrants for escape from confinement, felony larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Wood escaped from the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail in July of 2008 one day after being sentenced to 93-121 months on charges which included assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a government officer, resist, obstruct and delay, being a habitual felon and driving while license revoked.
