BELHAVEN – Lawrence Academy continues to march through the Tarheel Independent Conference.
The Lady Warriors recorded a four-set victory over Pungo Christian Academy last week to run their record to a perfect 6-0 in the league while making it 7-2 overall.
“Pungo is greatly improved from last year and was a good test for us,” said third-year Warrior skipper Dr. Ed Clouse. “We were a little confused and our serving was poor in games two and three. I am very proud of how my girls played a great fourth game.”
The Warriors jumped out early, winning 25-20 to take the first set. The Lady Raiders took set number two 25-17 before Lawrence bounced back for another 25-20 win. The Lady Warriors closed out the match with a 25-12 win.
Senior Debbie Stotesbury led the way with 20 assists for the evening as well as adding eight aces.
Shelby Zube had five aces, five digs and three kills for the Warriors while Ashtyn Mizelle added six kills and three aces.
Danielle Davis was good for six kills and four aces while Jennifer White had four kills and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Lawrence suffered a 25-5, 25-12 loss.
“We took a big step back today,” Dr. Clouse said. “Since this team only has one player with experience, I knew there would be growing pains.
“Overall, we are improving from the start of the year,” he closed.
