Eagles blank opponents

MURFREESBORO – Northeast Academy has swept a pair of tennis foes in the past week.
The Lady Eagles rolled by Lawrence Academy by a 9-0 count Tuesday after blanking Faith Christian School by the same score last week.
Northeast top-seed Betty Edwards was perfect Tuesday, scoring a 6-0, 6-0 defeat over Lawrence Academy’s Annie Gray Dixon. Also notching perfect victories were fourth seed Taylor Cocke, fifth seed Kelsey Futrell and sixth seed Kathryn Bryant. Cocke defeated Hanna Evans while Futrell topped Hayden Thompson and Bryant stopped Sarah Meggison.
Lady Eagles second seed LeAnn Barnes defeated McCawl Nelson 6-1, 6-0 and third seed Kelly Edwards edged Hallie Corbett 6-1 and 6-4.
In doubles action, B. Edwards and Bryant defeated Thompson and Nelson 8-1 while K. Edwards and Cocke defeated Corbett and Dixon by the same margin. Barnes and Kaylen Rose defeated Evans and Meggison by a final of 8-0.
Last Thursday, the Lady Eagles had a similar outing against Faith Christian School.
During that matchup, it was Kelly Edwards who was perfect, scoring a straight 6-0 win over C. Chency.
Top seed Betty Edwards defeated K. Blaylock 6-4 and 7-5 while LeAnn Barnes won her second-seeded matchup with T. Hall 6-3 and 6-1.
Northeast number four seed Lansdall Edwards defeated M. Catt 6-1, 6-0 and fifth seed Kelsey Futrell defeated K. Watson 6-3, 6-0. The Lady Eagles sixth seeded Kathryn Bryant defeated K. Barnes 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, B. Edwards and Bryant defeated Blaylock and Hall 8-0 while K. Edwards and Cocke handled Chency and Catt by the same score. Barnes and Rose topped Watson and Barnes 8-0.
Northeast improved to 3-0 for the young season and hosted Northeastern High School yesterday (Wednesday).
