CONWAY – Citizens in Northampton County are encouraged to learn about driving safety all while helping out a local rescue squad.
On Saturday, the Conway-Severn Volunteer Rescue Squad (C-SVRS) will be holding a Health and Safety Fair at Conway Middle School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will offer an array of activities, including bingo, a kids’ play place, food and vendors. Rescue Squad demonstrations will also take place.
A special landing of the East Care helicopter is slated for 11:30 a.m. C-SVRS’s sister squad, Roanoke Valley Rescue, will also be on hand to conduct extrication demonstrations.
C-SVRS Lieutenant Chris Buffaloe said the event is a fundraiser for the rescue squad, which is one of the last few existing volunteer squads in the area.
Buffaloe also noted the squad hopes to get the word out about driving safety. Since January 1, there have been 13 car accidents involving “pin-ins,” crash victims trapped inside a vehicle, in the squad’s coverage area.
